Many of you are familiar with Yahoo, Google, and Bing.

These are typical examples of search engines.

A search engine is a web-based tool/software that helps you find what you’re looking for on the internet.

It serves as a directory of information.

What is SEO?

SEO stands for Search Engine Optimization.

It’s the method used to raise the amount and quality of traffic to your website or web pages from search engines.

You need visitors to your website and web pages to grow your business.

However, only the right kind of visitors are looking to purchase your product or services.

SEO helps you target your ideal customer through these components:

  •  keyword and competitor research
  •  carefully crafted content(articles created to help your potential customers decide to buy from you and not your competitors)
  • optimizing pages(placing the right keywords on your website so search engines can find and list your webpage)
  • social media marketing
  • building links
  • data and analysis

What is a keyword?

Keywords are words the search engines read to deliver the information you need.

There are simple keywords (common words and phrases that describe your products or services) and long-tail keywords (specific groups of words that describe your product or service in more detail).

For example, if you want to search for party supplies, you can go to Google’s search page and type in party supplies in the search bar.

Then you click to the right of the phrase party supplies.

After that, you will notice a list of related words and phrases show up in the drop-down menu.

 These are called keywords.

When you press return or click the looking glass search icon, it takes you to a list of several websites related to party supplies.

The example keyword party supplies is a simple keyword that serves as a general description of your product or service.

Party supplies for a baby shower is a long-tail keyword.

Long-tail keywords target a specific audience searching for a particular type of product or service, in this case, party supplies for a baby shower.

When you develop your SEO keyword strategy, you want to choose long-tail keywords with low keyword difficulty.

This way, you’ll get plenty of traffic from that keyword, but you won’t have to compete with several other websites.

What is SEO keyword research?

Keyword research is the process of finding words or phrases related to your business to include on your website and web pages so that search engines can list your website.

Doing it the right way brings you website traffic without having to pay for ads.

Search engines list your website and web pages according to rank or position of importance.

If you want your website to show up on the first page of a web search for party supplies, it has to rank for the keyword party supplies.

Unfortunately, the keyword party supplies is a high-competition keyword.

High-competition keywords are difficult to rank for and have a high search volume(a large number of searches).

While these words have the potential to bring in plenty of traffic, adding these keywords to your website is not enough to rank high on a search engine’s list for that keyword.

You’ll need to use additional SEO methods like link building and on-page optimization to help your website and web pages show up in the first few pages of a targeted web search.

If you want people to find your business and buy, you need the best keywords that describe your business and low competition high-traffic keywords.

These keywords still bring a generous amount of traffic to your website and pages.

You don’t have to use as many SEO methods like links to reputable websites within your niche or industry to rank higher on a search engine list for them.

Excellent keyword research strategy aims for the ability to rank for both high-competition and low-competition keywords.

It takes time and effort, but it’s achievable for small, medium-sized, and large established companies.

Why knowing about and applying it is a necessary part of your online businesses’ marketing success?

When you master SEO keyword research, your website will have a better chance of being found by potential customers who need your products or services.

That means you reach a larger group of people who are willing to buy from you.

Not only does this increase your business, but it also ensures that people see you as an industry or niche expert.

Who doesn’t want that?

Now here’s the part where you can save money!

Since the software to create SEO success can often take a large chunk of your budget, it’s crucial to research which tools are the most affordable.

When you’re just getting started, every dollar you invest in your business counts.

You can’t afford to waste money.

It’s time to implement key strategies that’ll help you reach your entrepreneurial goals.

Here are some of the best free SEO keyword software tools to help you grow your business.

1. Ubersuggest

What it is:

SEO expert Neil Patel recently bought Ubersuggest and added this all-in-one keyword tool software to his website.

What it does:

You can use this innovative tool to discover high-competition and low-competition keywords with a large number of searches.

It also allows you to perform a domain overview and get a sneak peek into your competitions’ SEO, content marketing, and social media plan.

Ubbersuggest shows you timely information on search volume, difficulty, and monthly popularity.

The free keyword tool offers an incredible number of keywords and long-tail keyword phrases that your competitors use.

Its detailed analytics help you gain valuable information about what is working for other businesses in your niche.

It also allows you to perform a domain overview and get a sneak peek into your competitions’ SEO, content marketing, and social media plan.

Easily make Cost-Per-Click, Search Volume, SEO difficulty, and Paid difficulty comparisons.

The keyword ideas page gives you suggestions on related keywords and long-tail keywords that you will use to rank higher in a Google search.

How to use it:

When you land on Ubbersuggest’s home page, you’ll notice a keyword search box with a box to the right for selecting the country and language of your search.

Type a keyword into the search box and press return. You instantly arrive at the keyword analyzer overview page.

Ubersuggest Keyword Analyzer Page Screenshot for Abstract Reception Abstract Art Blog
Screenshot Of Ubersuggest Keyword Analyzer Page

This page gives you valuable stats like the keywords search volume, SEO difficulty, paid difficulty, and Cost-Per-Click(how much you pay per click if you want to use Google to place an ad for that word).

The example keyword party supplies I used has a high search volume of 74,000 a month.

That’s 74,000 people a month that search for this exact keyword.

It’s important to understand search volume because the number of searches a keyword has per month determines how many people search for that topic.

The perfect keywords for your business should have a moderate amount of searches.

The SEO difficulty score is 62.

That’s still high enough to consider it a high-competition keyword.

If a keyword has too few searches, it won’t generate enough traffic to be of any value. If it has a vast number of searches, your website won’t rank for that keyword.

The paid difficulty, how much competition a keyword has in a paid search, is 100.

If a keyword has several searches, many businesses are bidding on it, which increases the competition for site ranking.

And the cost-per-click, the average cost you would pay Google for an ad, is 1.04.

If you want potential customers to see your new ad in a Google search, you’ll have to pay a higher cost for advertising for high-competition keywords.

Since the example keyword “party supplies” has a high search volume, it’s considered competitive and more valuable.

When you look at these results, you instantly know it’ll take significant work to rank for this keyword.

As you scroll down the keyword overview page, you’ll see a chart titled Search Volume.

Ubersuggest Search Volume Chart Screenshot For Abstract Reception Abstract Art Blog

Ubersuggest measures search volume by Mobile Volume and Desktop Volume over a period of months and years.

Mobile Volume reveals how many people search for your keyword using a mobile device.

Desktop Volume shows how many people search for your keyword using a desktop computer.

To access this keyword data, you have to sign up for the 7-day free trial.

With the 7-day free trial, you can also discover how many clicks are in SEO results and the age range of the people searching for your keyword.

Next, there’s a Keyword Ideas table with a list of keyword phrases that include the keyword you’re analyzing.

In my example using party supplies, you will notice that there are 100 results or keyword ideas.

Ahrefs chooses to order these keyword ideas by Phrase match and Question categories at the top of the keyword results table.

The table below has three measurements, KD(keyword difficulty), Volume(search volume), and Updated(When they check the search engine for results).

As you can see, Minecraft, Roblox, Fortnite, and Tiktok party supplies are all low-competition keywords with relatively high search volumes.

If you want access to even more keyword ideas, you can take advantage of Ahrefs 7-day trial for $7.00.

The top of the chart has two categories on the left, Visualization(Visual Charts) and Data.

At the center of this chart, you’ll notice your seed keyword.

*Answer The Public refers to keywords as seed keywords because these are the simple words or phrases you’ll use to generate results.

It’s connected to web-like grey branches with words like where, when, and why.

These words connect to questions people use when searching for your keyword.

Each of the search suggestions has a green dot of a varying value connected to it.

These green gradient dots rank search suggestions according to the level of importance.

A dark green dot indicates the search suggestion is at the top of Google suggestions.

A lighter green dot reveals that the search suggestion is further down on Googles’ list.

Click on any of the search suggestions, and it will automatically take you to a Google search page for that long-tail keyword question/phrase.

This page will show all the content associated with it.

Because you can perform the search in a new window, you can return to your report with a simple click on the search tab.

Find The Right Keyword Tool

When it comes to SEO keyword research, not all tools serve the same purpose.

Some are great for researching the perfect keywords to bid on for ads but will not help you when you’re trying to find the right words for website ranking and optimization.

Understanding the difference between the two is necessary to your successful keyword strategy.

Make sure to look for an all-in-one keyword tool that will help you complete both of these goals.

After finishing this article, you have a pretty good idea of which keyword tool you’ll want to use to achieve SEO success.

Coming up with a solid keyword strategy for optimizing your website takes some work and extra knowledge, but you can do it.

Over time, your consistent efforts will pay off, and you will be closer to gaining the monthly traffic that can make your business sustainable.
