A LESSON IN WAITING
Patiently, the pen strikes the page,
A boundless white field,
A new beginning,
The mind wants to leap ahead,
The heart wants to stay behind,
Dwelling in disappointments,
Certainties of the past,
Peeking anxiously through sharp slats,
Fearful of blood-soaked wars ahead,
Then,
Unexpectedly,
The curve appears,
Another year like dead relationships passes,
Too soon,
Before we fall to regrets
Welcome curve,
A new resolution, coupled with strength,
Generously,
Boldly,
Brings us to you,
We hunger for life,
Not yet lived,
And solemnly wonder,
Why we always fear,
Things concealed,
From waking sight,
Sight that must learn to see,
See to dream,
See to gain power,
Through action,
The futures promises entice us,
Pushing us forward,
Moving us closer,
Toward Heaven or Hell.
Before our urgent decision,
An immediate end to countless dramas,
There is still time to play,
As the pen soaks paper,
Still time to write,
A better ending.
What does this object remind you of?
