A patient flower sits amongst common lawn grass. It’s sharp petals form a star that burns it’s way into the eager gardener’s memory.  Two bright lights like hovering fairies chase it’s stem, waiting to catch the morning dew.

This is the second installment of the Lasers and Let-Us (Lettuce) Nature Series.  Of all the flowers at the nursery, this exotic, fiery lily chose to take center stage. “Tell me that I’m beautiful,” it cried.  I did by dutifully taking this picture.

Gentle waves ripple across the surface.  A sudden burst of sun yellow radiates a familiar visual heat then gradually succumbs to a deep sea cobalt blue. The scene is hot and cold, fire and ice, heaven and earth.

When I first noticed this peculiar item at a home enhancement store, I was immediately drawn to its unusual surface.  Though the initial piece was subtle in color, it had a unique sculptural quality. It’s general pattern reminded me of heat waves, sun rays and moving water. Later, I found that a certain amount of color enhancement was necessary to illustrate the combining of these two natural elements, fire and water.

Tender green leaves emerge from quiet darkness. A crimson ray of light penetrates the scene. The summer garden lives, subtly revealing the mystery of the moment.

*SIDE NOTE: Recently, I have decided to get a little more adventurous and include some of my latest conceptual photography on this abstract art blog.  For all you plant and nature lovers out there, I hope that you enjoy my latest twist on an already familiar subject! 

A quick trip to Rainbow Garden Center resulted in some inspirational and beautiful pictures of a variety of plants and flowers. I decided to reinterpret one of my photos of a popular, tropical garden plant.  Instead of a sunny, busy mid-afternoon, I wanted to portray the plant as if it were slowly getting ready to face the start of another day.  Unexpected light interruptions and creative use of appropriate filters provided visual interest and added to the concept of new beginnings.

Vibrant hues flow beneath the frozen, pebbled surface.  Each cell captures and fragments the unique color combinations it contains. A mysterious landscape is finally recovered, emerging from the depths of the unconscious mind.

This is the second picture taken from an object that I had posted earlier. It’s unusual, reflective texture was taken at a flooring store. I simply intensified the color, sharpened the overall image, and brought out its structure. Today is Independence day, so in honor of American Independence I decided to post a colorful photograph.  To all of my American readers, Happy Fourth of July!  To all of my international readers, have a wonderful, and art full weekend.
